Hello! My name is Maria-Lucilia Gorre (MLG, for short).
I’m an artist and musician from Rochester, New York. As a first-generation Filipino-American, I often feel like I live in the seams of things. My work includes drawings, paintings, and prints that colorfully reflect interior and exterior worlds–imaginative, emotional, and microscopic. I work mainly in acrylic and gouache on paper and canvas, while experimenting with analog printing techniques including screenprinting, block printing, and risograph printing. I also make zines and comics, and am currently working on a graphic novel.
From 2015-2020, I served as the founder, creative director, and editor-in-chief for I Heart ROC, a website, social platform, and creative community chronicling the lives and loves of the people of Rochester. My visual essay, Shadowplaces, was a Spring Showcase finalist for the Art of Freelance creative accelerator workshop, and has been featured in the Medium magazine, Human Parts.
In my spare time, I spend a lot of time daydreaming, looking closely at things, and making up stories about the mundane. The rest of the time, I drum and mess around with synthesizers. Previously a professional designer and illustrator for 8 years, I earned my MFA from Mills College in 2022.
Learn more about exhibitions I’ve participated in here. Original pieces and prints of my artwork are available for purchase on my online shop and on Etsy. I also write about all sorts of things, including my perpetual curiosity, on Substack.
